What safety precautions should be observed when operating a plastic shredder?

Category: Industry News

Release Date: 2020-12-29

Summary: The following safety precautions must be observed when operating a plastic shredder. During operation, operators must stay clear of the tangential plane of the hammer blades’ rotation; feeding materials by hand is strictly prohibited, hands must never extend beyond the safety guard, and it is absolutely forbidden to use metal tools or rods in place of manual feeding.

The following safety precautions should be observed when operating a plastic shredder.

1. During operation of the pulverizer, operators must keep clear of the tangential plane of the hammer rotor; feeding material by hand is prohibited, hands must not extend beyond the safety guard, and it is strictly forbidden to use metal tools or rods in place of manual feeding.

2. The crusher and the power unit shall be securely installed. If the crusher is to operate continuously in a fixed location, it shall be mounted on a concrete foundation; if the plastic crusher is used for mobile operations, the unit shall be mounted on a frame constructed from angle iron, and care shall be taken to ensure that the pulleys of the power unit (diesel engine or electric motor) and the crusher are aligned in the same plane of rotation.

3. After the pulverizer has been installed, inspect the tightness of all fasteners and tighten any that are loose. At the same time, check that the belt tension is appropriate.

4. Before starting the pulverizer, manually rotate the rotor to check whether the teeth, hammers, and rotor operate smoothly and reliably, whether there is any collision or obstruction inside the casing, and whether the rotor’s direction of rotation matches the direction indicated by the machine’s head. Also verify that the power unit and the pulverizer are properly lubricated.

5. Do not arbitrarily replace the pulley to prevent excessive rotational speed from causing an explosion in the crushing chamber, or insufficient speed from reducing the pulverizer’s operational efficiency.

6. After the pulverizer is started, it should first run at no load for 2 to 3 minutes; only when no abnormal conditions are observed should materials be fed in for operation.

7. During operation, constantly monitor the pulverizer’s running condition, ensure uniform feeding to prevent blockage and motor stalling, and avoid prolonged operation under overload. If any of the following symptoms are observed—vibration, abnormal noise, excessively high bearing or machine body temperature, or material spraying outward—immediately stop the machine for inspection and troubleshooting; resume operation only after the fault has been rectified.

8. In the event of a blockage, immediately shut down the machine. It is strictly prohibited to forcibly feed or pull out the feed to be processed using a wooden stick or your hands while the machine is still running, to prevent injury to your arms or damage to the equipment.

9. When crushing harder raw materials, operators must wear safety glasses.

X. The workplace shall be equipped with exhaust ventilation systems, and smoking and open flames are strictly prohibited to prevent dust explosions and fires.
