Summary: The control system of a plastic pelletizing machine comprises a heating system, a drive system, a cooling system, and a process-parameter measurement system, and is primarily composed of electrical equipment, instrumentation, and actuating devices (namely the control panel and workstations). The main functions of the control system are: to control and adjust the primary auxiliary drive motors so that their speed and power output meet process requirements and enable coordinated operation of the primary auxiliaries; to monitor and regulate the temperature, pressure, and flow rate of the plastic molding machine; and to implement either centralized control or automatic control of the entire equipment.

A Brief Overview of the Control System Operation for Plastic Pelletizing Production Lines in Chengdu

The control system of a plastic pelletizing machine comprises a heating system, a drive system, a cooling system, and a process-parameter measurement system, and is primarily composed of electrical equipment, instrumentation, and actuating mechanisms (i.e., the control panel and workstations). The main functions of the control system are: to control and adjust the primary auxiliary drive motor so that its speed and power output meet process requirements and enable coordinated operation of the primary auxiliary units; to monitor and regulate the temperature, pressure, and flow rate of the plastic molding machine; and to implement either manual or automatic control of the entire equipment.

The electrical control system of the extrusion unit is broadly divided into two main components: drive control and temperature control, thereby enabling the extrusion process to be fully automated with integrated monitoring and regulation of temperature, pressure, and cooling.

1. Temperature Control of the Plastic Pelletizer Main Unit

The extrusion of insulation and sheathing for plastic wires and cables is characterized by viscous flow resulting from thermoplastic deformation. In addition to the required screw and external heating barrel in a plastic pelletizing machine, the plastic melt is extruded; moreover, the screw itself generates heat during the extrusion process. Therefore, when determining the temperature requirements for the main unit, a holistic approach must be adopted: it is not sufficient to consider only the on/off control of the heaters, but also the cooling effect of the screw. The positioning and installation method of the thermocouple—used as the temperature-sensing element—must be properly and reasonably specified to ensure that the readings from the temperature-control instrument accurately reflect the actual temperature of the component. Furthermore, the accuracy of the temperature-control instrument must be well matched with the overall system, so that the stability of the entire plastic-pelletizing-machine temperature-control system can meet the specific temperature requirements for various plastic-extrusion processes.

2. Screw Speed Control for Plastic Pelletizing Machines

An important technical requirement for plastic pelletizing machines is the adjustment of screw speed and its stability during main-unit operation. Screw speed directly determines both the output quantity and production rate; to achieve high productivity in normal operation, it is essential to maintain the screw speed at the level required for optimal performance. Fluctuations in screw speed can lead to variations in extrusion quality, which, in turn, can cause changes in cable diameter when the take-up line speed remains constant.

3. Diameter Control for Plastic Pelletizers

As mentioned above, to ensure the specified diameter of the product cable, it is necessary not only to control the dimensional tolerances of the conductor core, extrusion temperature, screw speed, and traction unit, but also to precisely regulate the line speed and perform accurate outer-diameter measurement. In the plastic pelletizing equipment, the cable’s outer diameter should be monitored at all times, with error signals used to adjust the traction or screw speed as needed to correct any deviations and maintain the target diameter.

4. Requirements for web tension control in plastic pelletizing machines

To ensure constant tension during winding at varying line speeds when operating from an empty bobbin, it is desirable to incorporate a tension-control mechanism in the winding equipment’s cable-storage system, or to consider an electrical control system that maintains both constant line speed and constant tension during winding.
